Life has been more or less mundane since our Italy trip. Just working full time and trying to stay warm as the temperatures outside are dropping. It's been below freezing overnight lately and most of the leaves have fallen from the trees. Since we changed the time last week it gets dark at 5 pm too, so that makes it feel even more like winter.
We have been enjoying some of the fall festivities around here. A couple weekends ago we met my ex-coworker Simon and his girlfriend up in Ely for the Ely apple festival. We ate a lot of apples and Ryan won the longest apple peel contest. Very exciting.
This coming week on November 5 the UK celebrates bonfire night. I'm told that this is in remembrance of Guy Fawkes’ attempt at one of the greatest and earliest acts of political terrorism. He would try to assassinate the king along with the whole Parliament in one mighty blast of gunpowder as they gathered for the ceremonial State Opening of Parliament of 1605. His plot failed but every year they burn him in effigy in bonfires and blow off fireworks anyway. So we may not have gotten fireworks on July 4, but we do get it for November 5.
Not much celebration of Halloween here, but some people dress up. It's just not really widely celebrated.
We're much looking forward to visiting home in November! Only three weeks away now.
